About

I’ve spent years letting others convince that my passions weren’t worth pursuing and my skills were of little value. I lived a life that was defined by others. I did what I thought I should be doing not what I really wanted to do. I was too afraid to step out of my defined role in society. I was too afraid to take a chance, but over time that all changed.

I started to recognize how not living the life I wanted was making me unhappy. I was doing everything I was supposed to do, but nothing I wanted to do. I knew that had to change in order to have a truly fulfilling life. So I set out to make a change.

I always wanted to be a professional writer, but I was too afraid of failure to try. I’d make small attempts. Sometimes I’d submit my writings or queries half-heartedly to publications, but I never did it seriously.

In 2007, I decided that if I wanted to write I needed to start doing it now. I started taking writing seriously. It’s only when I started taking it seriously and committing myself to writing that I was able to find any success in it. Sure there were a lot of rejections, but learning not to take those personally was part of the process. If you look at the most successful people in the world, you’ll see that they’ve all experienced failure. The ability to learn from those failures and keep trying is what made them successful.

I used to always complain about my health. I wanted to be healthy, but I didn’t want to do the work that’s required to be healthy. Eating right and exercising weren’t priorities for me. Then I realized that the only way to start being healthy was to start being healthy. I started learning about diet and exercise and experimenting with what worked best for me. Now that I eat right and exercise regularly I can’t imagine not doing it.

The Art of Balanced Living is a place to discuss how to make positive changes in our lives. I think that the purpose of life is to improve. We’re here to learn to be the best we can possibly be and to help the others around us become their best selves.

I’m not only doing this through this blog. With my personal blog Nebulous Mooch, I find the humor in daily life. With Stop and Hear the Music, I honor the talent of great jazz musicians. Music brings joy. My website Massage Therapy Benefits, helps empower people to seek natural healing and learn how to heal themselves.  All of these sites help me fulfill my dreams, while helping others.

I hope you enjoy the Art of Balanced Living. I love to hear your comments. I want this blog to facilitate meaningful conversations about personal growth.
