How Do You Know When It’s Time To Take a Break?

I thought I’d start out by explaining why I stopped posting on this blog in the first place. The story goes a little something like this.

A few years ago I started getting pretty curious about blogging to make money. I had a personal blog already that was just full of funny things about my life. It was a laugh, but I really couldn’t think of a way to make it profitable. So I decided to start another blog. I started a music review blog that never really go off the ground. Then I started this blog. I’d had an interest in health for a long time and I was starting to get interested in personal development. So I started posting on this blog, but I didn’t go about it the right way.

I didn’t have a clear vision about were I wanted the blog to go. I had no clear goals. I just thought I’d write about whatever strikes my fancy, slap up some adsense ads and start making money. Oh, I was so naive. After a while I started feeling frustrated, because I was only making a few cents a day and the blog started seeming like a bit of a chore. Some more time passed and I didn’t feel like writing on it at all. Eventually, I just stopped.

I could’ve soldiered through my frustration and just kept posting. That might be what a lot have people would have said to do, but I just wasn’t feeling it and I didn’t want to be fake.

Anyway, the time I spent away from this blog gave me extra time to pursue some other things. I’ve learned a lot in these past few months. I’ve learned more about what I want to do and more about what I don’t really want to do too.

I’ve also gotten myself a bit more together health wise and have learned some really valuable information that has helped me feel great that I will post about in the future.

Two Approaches Dealing with Stuckedness

We all encounter obstacles of some sort in our lives. I’ve found that there are two ways of dealing with them.

1. There are times when you need to just push through it to keep up the momentum. I often do that when I write fiction. I find that writing everyday and making myself write even when I don’t really feel like it helps build up my fiction writing skills. If I didn’t write just because I didn’t feel like it I might not get much done at all.

2.  Sometimes you just need to stop and take a break. That’s what I’ve done with this blog. Taking a break gives you a chance to breathe and evaluate your situation. You can make a new plan and approach the situation from a different angle.

I am in no way suggesting that I have all the answers. I don’t know how to tell what approach is the most appropriate for your situation. I only know how to tell that for myself through trial and error. So maybe you can tell me. How do you know if it’s time to take a break or you need press on?
