Health and Diet Series Intro

Written by Lovelyn on April 15, 2009 – 6:13 pm -

There are tons of health gurus out there telling you what you should eat, what supplements to take and what kind of exercise to do. There’s so much information and so much of it is contradictory that it’s hard to know what to listen to.

Many people are left feeling confused and frustrated. Having a healthy diet has turned into such a complicated thing.

That’s why I’ve decided to do a little series on diets and health guru’s. I’m going to take a look at some diet’s and find out what they are and what research has been done on them. I’ll look at raw food, vegan, vegetarian, low carb, paleolithic, Mediterranean, and the calorie restriction diets.

I’m going to take a look at some of the most popular health gurus, including Dr. Mercola, Gary Null and Dr. Weil. I’ll look at what they preach, what their qualifications are, what free services they offer and what they’re selling you.

That is a great thing to do!!!

I also recommend to look into Dr. Joel Fuhrman and his “diet”.

Suprised to hear you stopped eating grains as per your tweet, is it based on Dr. Mercola’s ideas or others?

I read a book by fellow blogger Dr. Scott Olson and he tells people to stay clear of grains too. While I myself personally promote a healthy, wholesome, plant-based and natural diet, that should not be hard for anyone to achieve, I do incorporate grains into it for various scientific reasons. I do not necessarily agree with eating wheat per se, and sprouted grains are better than non, but I am still an avid believer in their health benefits. Would love to hear what lead you to stop.

Thanks Evita. I’ll look into Dr. Joel Fuhrman. I’ve heard of him but I’m not very familiar with his diet.

I’ve heard and read a lot of things about grains not being good the way we eat them today. Some things from Dr. Mercola’s website and some things from the Weston Price association, which is a lot of what Dr. Mercola’s advice follows. I know that many raw foodists think grains are bad for you so I thought that maybe there’s something to it.

This no grains thing is a little experiment. I don’t know how long I’ll do it. Brown rice is one of my favorite foods.

I think we all need to see what works for us. I dont believe that there diet that fits all.

I cant eat gluten, dairy, soy corn, most other grains, high sugar fruits, refined sugar at all and a few other things.

Some people cant eat those things. You have to see what works for you.
