Taking Action
Written by Lovelyn on April 8, 2009 – 4:19 pm -Since I’ve been thinking a lot about visualization and also about being yourself or not being yourself around others, I’ve decided to share a little story with you.
One day, she let me in on a little secret about herself. When she was younger, she was actually quite shy. She was shy and introspective and felt quite depressed on a regular basis. She said she always looked at the social people and wished she could be like that. Then when she graduated from college, she moved to a new city. She decided that this was her big chance to change. She was going to a new place where people had no idea what she was like before.
She wanted to be outgoing, but wasn’t sure how to go about doing it. She started going to social events and watching what the outgoing people did. Then she just started doing what they were doing. It was very uncomfortable at first, but the more she did it the more comfortable she became. After a while behaving like that became so natural to her that she couldn’t even refer to herself as shy anymore. Besides being more outgoing, she said she felt more confident and happier in her life in general.
I think this is an example of how pretending you’ve already reached your goal can help you achieve it. She took the action necessary , even though it made her feel uncomfortable and now she’s achieved it. That’s just something to consider.
