Start Your Day With Intention
Written by Lovelyn on March 18, 2009 – 1:03 pm -I practice yoga. I try to practice everyday, but sometimes that everyday becomes once a week. Whenever, I do an online yoga class or on the rare occasions when I go to a real live yoga class a moment is given at the beginning of the class to set your intention for your yoga practice that day.
When I first started taking yoga classes I had no idea what this could possibly mean. I would set goals for myself like, “I will no fall over during balancing postures.” As my practice progressed the intentions I set became more about the general feelings I wanted from doing yoga than specifically about not falling down and embarrassing myself. Setting my intention for my practice helps me stay focused and in tune during my practice.
Seeing how setting an intention for my practice has helped me has made me decide to start setting an intention for my day. It doesn’t have to be a big deal. Just take a few minutes to quietly think of your goals for the day and how you want your day to go. It could be something as simple as a feeling you want to have throughout the day.
I’ve found that similar to my experience in my practice doing this helps me maintain focus throughout the day. Try setting an intention for your day tomorrow and see how it works for you.
