Everyone Deserves Some Time Off
Written by Lovelyn on February 16, 2009 – 7:29 pm -Sometimes you just need to take some time off. That’s what I did today. I went into London to the art museum and ate lunch at one of my favorite restaurants. Yeah, I had work to do, but the work was still here when I got back.
We all need to take a break sometimes. We need to take time to appreciate life and the world around you. It’s too easy to get so caught up in working that you let your life pass you by. You don’t have time to “count your blessings” or do the things you really enjoy.
I love writing and I have to admit that I tend to work too much. A lot of times I’m working six days a week. Even if you like your job this can get to be too much. That’s why I take the time to relax and do something enjoyable. I try to do it once a month. It’s worth it. It helps me remember what’s most important in life.
Try taking a day just to do something enjoyable. Spend time with your family. Go to a museum or the movies or a nice walk. Work on a hobby. There are so many things you can do. You don’t have to call out from work. You could just do it on your normal day off. The only rule is that you only do things you like to do that day.
It’ll take some planning ahead. You’ll need to make sure you’ve run the errands you need to the day before. Then go out and have fun. Don’t think about work. Forget about your worries and treat yourself well. Make this a regular part of your life. You deserve it.

Yep, I try do so the same thing by having a “super mini Holiday”.
PS. If your passionate about what you do - then working to much is not really work.

Great term, David. Everyone should go on “super mini holidays.”
It’s true that being passionate about what you do doesn’t make it work, but I find that working all the time makes me less well-rounded. Taking time off from work gives me prospective. It’s like being an artist or a musician. They say art is life, but if you haven’t lived life, you won’t make very good art.

Lovelyn, I want to know which museum you went to in London… so that I can live vicariously through you. I completely agree that everyone needs time off… or just some alone time.

Kate,
I went to Tate Modern. Here’s the website. Admission is free and I just love free.
