How I Made My Weaknesses Strengths
We all have weaknesses and most of us are quite familiar with what those weaknesses are. Many people have a much easier time finding their weaknesses than their strengths.
I have a ton of weakness, I still do, but as I identify and work on each weakness, they become strengths. It’s through working on improving the things that don’t necessarily come naturally to me that I become a stronger better person. Isn’t that what personal development is?
With the right mindset you can make the things that are most difficult in your life into strengths.
Self Evaluation
Examine your life and your actions. Are there things that you avoid doing? Why? Is there anything you avoid doing because you don’t think you’re good at it? Are there skills that you wish you had, but just can’t seem to master? Is there an aspect of your personality that you think is holding you back?
Admit Your Weakness
Admit you have a weakness. Don’t make excuses for it. Just admit that it is. Part of learning to love yourself is learning see yourself as you really are. This includes your strengths and weaknesses. Once you are able to admit to yourself and others that you have a weakness, you’re freed up to evaluate that weakness and why it is. Ignoring the problem or making excuses never changed anything. Doing that might actually make things worse. When you are able to admit your weaknesses, you are able to move forward and change them.
Educate Yourself
For me, education has become an important factor in change. I used to have bad eating habits. I loved chips and cake and other foods that were not good for me. I knew I wasn’t eating right and I needed to make a change. So I started educating myself about food, and food additives. Learning these things made my desire to eat bad food decrease. I didn’t want to put all that bad stuff in my body anymore. Now my eating habits are very good.
If you’re educated about your weakness, why you have it and what makes it a weakness that knowledge can help you change.
Ask for Help
This used to be very hard for me. Sometimes it still is. Asking family and friends to help you overcome a weakness or make a change in your life gives you support in making the change you need. When you have others supporting you, it’s easier to change.
Make a Plan
Planning and setting goals always helps me. If you have one big goal, you can break that goal down into a few small goals that will eventually get you to your big goal. This can make the task less overwhelming.
Write your goals down and everyday write down how you did in achieving that goal.
Becoming Strengths
You’ll find that overtime, purposefully working to improve some aspect of your life or personality will give you added strength and confidence. Set out with success in mind and you will succeed. Once you’ve succeeded you’ll notice how much better you are not only in the area you’ve set out to change, but in other areas of your life. Making positive change touches all aspects of your life: home, relationships and bussiness. Then you’ll notice that your weakness has become a strenght.
What if your weakness is something that can’t be changed, like an illness or disability? Doing everyday activities maybe harder for you than most people, but your ability to do them despite that makes you strong.
