Natural Weed Killer

We have a gravel driveway in front of our flat. The other day I looked out at it and noticed that the weeds in it were getting quite tall.

“Are we supposed to take care of that or is our landlord?” I asked my husband.

We took a quick look at the lease and discovered that we were supposed to take care of the weeds.

After doing some research, I found several ways to get rid of weeds without the use of chemical laden weed killers.

  1. Pull them up. You can do it the old fashioned way. It can be hard work, but it can also be therapeutic. I wanted to take that approach, but my husband argued that it was too much hard work and would take too long.
  2. Salt. Putting coarse salt like rock salt on weeds is supposed to kill them. The problem is that it soaks into the soil and ruins it. When I told my husband this he said, “Good. We don’t want anything to grow there anyway.” Then I pointed out another possible problem. Putting a bunch of salt down in the driveway could rust out our car.
  3. Boiling water. You could boil a pot of water and pour it on the weeds. This sounds like a lot of work to me. I’m clumsy too. I’m likely to fall down carrying the pot of water outside.
  4. Vinegar. Put vinegar in a spray bottle and spray it on the weeds. You know I like using vinegar for just about anything so this plan sounds like a winner to me.

The only problem is that it’s been raining ever since I started looking for ways to get rid of the weeds so I haven’t been able to try it out.
