Natural Cleaning Products You Can Make At Home

I’ve been trying to use more environmentally friendly cleaning products. The problem with that is most environmentally friendly cleaning products seem to cost twice as much as what I’ve been paying for regular cleaning products. Convinced that their must be a cheaper solution, I did some research and guess what? I found one. I thought I’d share what I found with you.

White vinegar is cheap and acidic. It cuts soap scum, kills mildew and deodorizes. White vinegar can be used as an all-purpose cleaner. Mix 1 part water and 1 part white vinegar in a spray bottle for an all-purpose cleaner. Don’t worry. The vinegar smell goods away once it dries. Add 1 cup vinegar to the rinse cycle to soften your clothes.

Baking Soda is great as and abrasive cleaner to scrub surfaces. Use it like you would any scrubbing powder. It also makes a great deodorizer.

Use 1/4 cup baking soda and 1 cup vinegar as a toilet bowl cleaner. I tried this on Saturday and it worked great. There’s also something very satisfying about all the fizzing that takes place.

There are some essential oils that can be used as disinfectants. Clove oil, tea tree oil and lavender oil are three such oils. Put 1 teaspoon of essential oil in a spray bottle with 2 cups water and use as a disinfectant spray. Don’t get it in your eyes. That just wouldn’t be a good scene.

I have been waging war with shower mold these days. I’ve read that spraying a mixture of 1 part hydrogen peroxide and 3 parts water on the moldy area daily and scrubbing my shower with the mixture will help. I’m trying this solution now. We’ll see if it works.

If you know of any other cheap and natural cleaning solutions, please share them with me in the comments.
