Peppery Vegetarian Pot Stickers

Here’s another terrible food picture. I don’t know why everything kept looking so yellowish in this one. Anyway, I made this recipe for vegetarian pot stickers that I found the other day. It’s delicious and not very hard to make.
Ingredients
- 1 onion sliced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, grated or finely minced
- 1 cup mushrooms sliced (I’ve used button mushrooms, shitake mushrooms and oyster mushrooms)
- 1 cup cabbage shredded (I’ve used regular cabbage or Chinese cabbage. They both work fine.)
- 1 cup chives finely chopped
- 1 cup carrots grated
- 1 teaspoon white pepper (That’s a lot of pepper but it’s good.)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/4 cup cilantro finely chopped
- 1 packet of won-ton skins (If you know how to make your own.)
- 1/4 cup water
Put a small amount of cooking oil in a pan and cook onion until translucent. Add ginger and cook for a few minutes. Then add mushrooms, cabbage carrots and chives. Cook on medium heat until cabbage is tender and mushrooms are thoroughly cooked. Add pepper and stir. Take the pan off the heat and add sesame oil and cilantro. Put mixture into the wonton skins to make cute little dumplings. This is the most time consuming part but well worth it. You’ll want to wet your finger to seal the dumplings closed. Once you’ve made all your dumplings, coat a hot frying pan in oil. Place your dumplings in the pan and let cook on medium heat until the bottom browns. Then add 1/4 cup of water and cover the pan immediately. Let cook until all of the water cooks out.
I like to eat my pot stickers with a delicious sauce made from 1 part soy sauce and 2 parts rice vinegar with some Korean red pepper flakes sprinkled on top.
I love Chinese dumplings so there will be other variations of dumpling recipes featured on this site in the future.
