Raw Apple Pie Recipe

This recipe has been a big hit at family gatherings ever since I started making it. Most people like apple pie. This apple pie tastes great and is good for you. It has no sugar and no gluten. What could be better?
I found this recipe on Ani Phyo’s website. She’s written a great book full of easy raw food recipes called Ani’s Raw Food Kitchen: Easy, Delectable Living Foods Recipes. Here’s the recipe for the pie:
Crust
- 2 cup almonds
- 2 cups pitted dates
- 1 teaspoon sea-salt
Syrup
- 1/2 cup pitted dates
- 1 orange pitted and seeded
- 1/4 cup water
Filling
- 5 to 6 apples peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 cup raisins or dried cranberries
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
Making the pie is pretty easy. There is a YouTube video of how to make it. I just have some tips for you before you watch Ani’s video. I buy sliced almonds to use because it’s easier on my food processor. I usually stick 1/4 to 1/3 a cut of almonds in the food processor and grind them up and dump them in the pie tin before I start making the pie. The almond powder helps keep the crust from sticking to the pan. When you make the crust it won’t be all together in a lump like it is in the video. I usually dump it into a bowl and use my hands to mash it together into a ball. It’s very sticky.
Just watch the video. She clearly explains everything else about making the pie.

I used to make a pie just like this when I was raw foodie. Looks tasty. I saw your recipe from the carnival and just couldn’t resist. Don’t see too many like this one. Great job!
